Mathematics for Environmental Research: Seminar and Reading Group

Summary
Mathematics underpins much of environmental research — differential equations, stochastic processes, optimisation, statistics and machine learning all appear across applications from flood risk to biodiversity, climate projections and resource management — yet many mathematicians are unaware of how their specialism applies to these problems. This activity supplements SAMBa CDT training with a monthly reading group of informal discussions on applications of mathematics to environmental problems, complemented by seminars organised across the themed semester and an industry visit to hydrological consultancy JBA/JBA Trust.
